Petter Northug and Emil Persson are the favorites to win Flyktningerennet this weekend, but several will challenge them.
It is only a few days to go before the 71st edition of Flyktningerennet that runs from Nordli in Norway to Gæddede in Sweden. Flyktingerennet is the only FIS-competition in Trøndelag.
The event is falling on the same weekend as the season finale of the world cup in Lahti, but the Visma Ski Classics skiers have a weekend off competitions.
Ida Dahl, Team Engcon, leader of the women’s VSC , is already signed up for Flyktningerennet. She will meet competition from Emilie Fleten, Team Ramudden, and Marte Skaanes, Strindheim, as long as she is not selected for the world cup in Lahti.
Emil Persson, Team 157 Ski Team, is the leader of the men’s VSC. He also won this year’s Vasaloppet, and only has two VSC races without victory this year.
Petter Northug, who previously has four wins in Flyktingerennet, is also attending. They will meet though competition from Kasper Stadås, Team Ragde, Amund Prage and Herman Paus, Team Ramudden, Axel Juttenstrøm and Joel Andersson, Team Eksjøhus, in amongst others. The winner of Flyktingerennet 2019, Oskar Kardin, Team ragde, and last year’s winner Ole Jørgen Bruvoll, Lierne Ski, will probably also be in the leading group. And what can Anton Elvseth, from Lierne, skiing for Team Engcon be capable of?
It is a lot of snow along the track, and with the weather forecast, it looks like there will be excellent conditions both Saturday and Sunday.
Every year since the beginning in 1950, just like in Vasaloppet, Flyktningerennet has had both “kranspøyk” and “kranstaus” to place the victory wreath on the winning man and woman on Sunday, and junior winners on Saturday.
This year Daniel Estil Brissach, Lierne IL, is “kranspøyk”, and Tina Bengtsson, Gæddede SK, is “kranstaus”.
